Mariona Graupera
Supervisor
Mariona Graupera is a group leader at the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute.
She obtained her PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Barcelona, focusing on the pathobiology of endothelial cells in liver cirrhosis. She carried out postdoctoral studies with Bart Vanhaesebroeck first at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and later the Barts Institute of Cancer, London where she was involved in characterizing the physiological role of class I PI3K isoforms. In particular, Mariona Graupera unravelled the importance of being selective in angiogenesis during development. In 2009 she had the opportunity to create a multidisciplinary laboratory devoted to study PI3K/PTEN signalling in physiopathological angiogenesis at IDIBELL with a Ramon y Cajal position. In February 2021 Mariona Graupera was appointed the Group Leader of the Endothelial Pathobiology and Microenvironment Group to the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute where she combines her passion for biomedical research and vascular biology with the training of students and postdocs. Her group investigates the role of blood vessels in disease towards the development of therapeutic strategies to target the vascular compartment.
